Currently at the Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris waiting for my connecting flight to Dubai.
Crazy roof at the god-forsaken terminal 2F I'm stuck in
The bastards charge for Internet (which I don’t have the money for at all), and I have to be here for 3 hours, so I had a choice to make:
1. Watch a film
2. Write on my dissertation
3. Sit down and watch people
Option 1 is blatantly the best choice, but the only place I found an electrical socket was in an abandoned Acer booth/stand, so it means I can’t sit down. Not fun watching a film like that. Option 3, fun for 10 minutes, maybe 30 minutes if I had music to listen to, but my iPod is dead. So option 2 it is! I look pretty professional, I must say.
1. I’ve shaved and I’m wearing a smart blazer in order to not to be taken into ‘random searches’ when going through security (trust me, if you look foreign, it works)
2. Also wearing glasses (hate travelling with contacts as I always fall asleep on the plane)
3. I have all my papers and articles out spread around me with ‘cool’ notes on them, and I’m writing like a crazy man, quite nice studying at the airport.
Abandoned Acer-booth..
So the result of this appearance + standing in an Acer booth + typing on an actual Acer computer = A LOT of people comin up and asking me weird questions in French. For the first 5 minutes I just explained in English that I’m just nicking the electricity, but after a while I started trying to explain it in my rusty French. When that went well, I started pretending that I actually work here. But after 3 or 4 questions they realise that I don’t work for Acer, and I don’t know French especially well, or know anything at all about where the Internet cafés are/or where to buy magazines etc. Fun though. And I managaed to write 734 words in less than 2 hours. Happy days. Off to board my plane now, will post this when I get Internet. Dubai and sun for a week. Love life at the moment!
Upsate: Just landed in Dubai, getting settled in Kat's place, soon out, loads of stuff to do!
What I've seen of Dubai so far, but more to come
